Examples of such diseases include the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and the coronary artery disease. It is derived from words “cardia” – meaning heart and “logy” – meaning study. Medical practitioners who specialize on cardiology are known as cardiologists. They are responsible for the treatment of heart related diseases while the cardiac surgeons are specialists in surgical procedures of the heart.
